The 2021 Canadian census revealed some interesting trends across the country, including here in Saskatchewan.

The report from Statistics Canada shows that the population of Estevan has declined in the last five years, dropping 5.5 per cent from 2016 to 2021. The report states that the population of Estevan was at 11,483 in 2016 and dropped to 10,851 as of 2021.

However the population of Saskatchewan actually increased over that same five-year period by 3.1 per cent. The population in the province was at 1,132,505 as of 2021.

Nationwide, the population jumped by 5.2 per cent from 2016-2021 and now sits at just under 37 million people (36,991,981).

The provinces and territories that saw the largest population increases were the Yukon (12.1 per cent), Prince Edward Island (8 per cent), and British Columbia (7.6 per cent).
