One of southeast Saskatchewan's largest tourist attractions is expected to be better than ever in 2017.

The Kenosee Superslides underwent a number of renovations during the off months, and are preparing for a big year.

"We've done a bunch of work on our moat, our 800 foot lazy canal. We tore some concrete out and redid that," shared General Manager Jan Armstrong.

"However, the big finishes are on our bridge. We had all the wood replaced and resurfaced with a non-slip coating, which is also covering the entire floors of our bathrooms. We completely refinished our 50 person hot tub as well with a rubberized coating."

"Our big project is our 8 story free-fall. We are having it completely refinished in a seamless coating so people can finally go down again on their backs, instead of tubes. It's going to be done in bright red, and we will hopefully renaming it the Canadian Free-fall for the 150th anniversary," he revealed.

"We've been slowly trying to do bits and pieces each year to try and bring it back to what I hope is it's former glory. I really think this place is a fantastic place to go, and I would really like to see people make this a must stop destination in Saskatchewan."

While things were supposed to kick off on Wednesday, the rainy weather conditions put those plans on hold. However, Armstrong said that they hope to open Thursday, June 15th at 10:00 AM.

He added that there is a variety of festivities planned or in the works to be held at the park throughout the summer.

"We are trying to get several bands to come in, we're still working out the details with that. Hopefully we're going to have our DJ weekend again this year. For Canada Day long weekend we are going to have events and different games and such for our customers, and we're still working on whether we are going to be able to do fireworks here at Kenosee."

"However, I'm always excited for the August long weekend, as that's when we have our superhero Saturday. We have cos-players coming in from Regina, and they will be surrounding the park. They all have incredibly cinema-accurate costumes, and these people are really good at what they do. They come in completely free of charge and take pictures with the kids, so it makes for a lot of fun."

"Looking back, you can only find out what you could have done better. What I want to do is to try to make this park as great as I can for the people of Kenosee," he concluded.
