After a healthy dose of winter across the province this week, it appears warmer weather is on its way.

Environment Canada is forecasting much warmer temperatures for the south east beginning on Friday and carrying through the weekend and into next week.

"Normal for this time of year in Estevan is a day time high of minus 4...we're looking at daytime temperatures right around that mark, and then even into early next week we're looking at some above normal temperatures actually," said Environment Canada meteorologist Sara Hoffman.

So how warm could it get in Estevan next week?

"We're looking at temperatures around six to eight degrees Celsius above normal for this time of year for parts of the eastern part of Saskatchewan, so normal like I said is around minus four, so yeah two to four degrees Celsius is definitely possible," Hoffman said.

She also had some insight into what's causing the gradual change in temperature.

"We've been sort of stuck in this pattern of cold air sinking down and staying over the Prairies and we're going to have a bit of a change where that warm or more moderate, warm Pacific air will flow in and keep things closer to normal," Hoffman said.

The Environment Canada forecast suggests it could get as warm as four above next week in Estevan. There is also no precipitation being forecasted for the Estevan region for the foreseeable future.
