The Estevan Legion brought in over $20,000 at a fundraiser supper last Sunday after a motorcycle collision resulted in an Estevan man being hospitalized and the death of his wife.

The legion hosted the Tessier Benefit Supper in support of Darrel and Leigh-Ann Tessier, with the money going towards Darrel Tessier's recovery. He was recently transferred from the United States to a Regina hospital.

"We really would like to thank the community for its support, it was fantastic," said the legion's Treasurer Leonard Grube. "And we also want to thank all of our volunteers that helped with the event as well."

Grube said they sold 284 tickets for the dinner.

"All of the money is going towards the family. We aren't keeping any...the expenses will be covered by ourselves and Estevan Motors. That's where he (Darrel) worked," Grube said.

The crash occurred earlier this year in the U.S. when the couple's motorbike was struck by a truck

"Darrel was in the hospital in Fargo for some time," Grube said. "He lost a leg and some fingers. One arm is not good. So he has a long road ahead of him that's for sure. So we just thought we would try to give him some support."
