Oxbow Arts and Cultural Committee hosted its inaugural Winter Art Show at the Oxbow Public Library.

The Oxbow Arts and Cultural Committee and the Oxbow Library teamed up for this event, and they also invited artists and community members from Alameda and the surrounding area.

Megan Anderson, the Oxbow librarian and arts and culture committee member, emphasized the show's inclusivity, welcoming diverse mediums such as beadwork, acrylic pencil drawings, charcoal, pastels, quilting and mosaics.

Ten different artists were featured in the show, ranging in age from eight to seventy, and attracting approximately 50 attendees.

Anderson said that in the past the committee has mainly focused on music-based events.

“I’m more of an art person, I was in the show as well as some of our other board members,” said Anderson. “We just wanted to highlight some other talents in the community.”

She said that they are planning on hosting another art show in the fall and hope to highlight more artwork, with an emphasis on students art projects.

They have received grants to support art-based programs in the community, including being part of a pilot project based around arts and ceramics, as arts were one of the most requested.

In addition to the art show the Oxbow Arts and Culture Committee held their Shake the Winter Blues event last Thursday and the second installment is set for March 14th at the Alameda Legion.
