As well-built as SaskPower's structures tend to be, sometimes Mother Nature is just a little bit too strong for them. That was the case with the ongoing windstorm, as a snapped power pole is still under repair by SaskPower.

"We did respond this morning to a power outage call at the Bienfait dump," said Bienfait Fire Chief Adrian Bachorcik. "It snapped a pole and SaskPower is on-scene right now trying to get it all fixed."

Bachorcik added the power pole didn't cause any major fires, though there was a small blaze in the ditch near where it fell that extinguished itself quickly. The power remains out, and there is some other damage due to wind as well.

"Mostly the damage in Bienfait has been to shingles (being ripped off roofs), trees, a few structures," he said, "outdoor tent storage places, stuff like that."

Despite the damage here and there, Bienfait avoided the major structural damage that beset some other communities, including one incident where wind ripped off a huge chunk of a roof. In a lot of ways, the community got off lightly.

Bachorcik also said SaskPower crews were working on restoring power at that very moment, but they were not able to give him a timeline of when it would be restored.
