The fight continues for the Estevan Police Service in their commitment to eradicate illegal substances from the streets of the Energy City.

Last week another bust was made with the result of arrests.

"The Drug and Intelligence Unit conducted a cocaine trafficking investigation on two males on March 31st. Along with members of the patrol section, the Unit carried out a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Souris Avenue and King Street," related Police Chief Paul Ladouceur.

"Two males were taken into custody at the scene without incident. A quantity of crack cocaine, as well as cash and the vehicle were seized in relation to the investigation which is ongoing, and is in support of our continued crackdown on narcotics in the City of Estevan. Excellent work once again by the Drug Unit."

He noted that a probe related to the drug scene can often be very extensive.

"Generally what we find is that illegal substance trafficking is like a web. It's very interconnected. Whenever we arrest somebody for dealing, there is usually a supplier that supplies that dealer, and a supplier that supplies the mid-level supplier as well, going all the way up the food chain to the main supplier or importer"

"This is a case where we are seeing people coming into our communities from out of province dealing drugs, and we are going to continue cracking down on them. We're sending a strong message. They can keep sending them, and we will keep charging them and arresting them," he added.

Ladouceur also stated that there is two parts to the fight against narcotics.

"One involves high level education within our schools and with our teens and young adults about good life choices and the dangers surrounding drug use. The second is strong enforcement in the area of illegal trafficking."

"We want to get to the point where people say, 'it's not worth dealing drugs in this city', because the likelihood of getting caught is too high."

"We've had drug dealer themselves say, 'you guys are doing really good work on this,' which is kind of unique to hear."

"We want to send the message loud and clear - if you are choosing to deal drugs in this city, be prepared to get caught. It's that simple," he expressed in conclusion.
