A report of an assault in the early-morning hours Sunday led to firearms charges against the accused for a separate incident between him and the complainant dating back a month.

Estevan Police Service Cst. Lana Gropp said police received a report of an assault that had just occurred on Sunday.

"While interviewing the victim, it was learned that another incident involving the same individuals had taken place approximately a month prior, but had not been reported. This incident involved a firearm."

The accused was arrested and is being held for a Monday court case.

Gropp said the male faces charges of assault, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Gropp said the call was for a physical assault against the female complainant.

The accused was not identified ahead of his court appearance.
