Recent crime numbers released from the Statistics Canada has shown that property crime in Saskatchewan is on the downturn.

"The RCMP we've seen a steady decline over the last ten months," explained Sgt. Earl Leblanc of the Saskatchewan RCMP. "The decrease began in August 2016 and has carried through into 2017 so our property crime has dropped 10% through those first six months this year."

"We want to work with our local officials, we want to work with our local citizens. And one of the big things that we encourage is the rural crime watch, citizens on patrol, any type of proactive measure that we can participate with and assist with to assist with rural crime. These are all programs that we are fully supportive of. We have regular meetings with our community groups and it's co-ownership with all these issues."

"We've had some successful cases in that area and a lot of that falls under the enforcement side of things, intelligence gathering, targeting certain crime-sprees that are going and it's working."

He also brought up a case where an individual was charged with over a hundred charges of break and enter, theft, mischief, and arson at various campgrounds and golf courses.

"We've had some significant cases where we've been able to locate and apprehend an individual and even most recently in the Estevan area, where our combined forces unit with the Estevan Police Services having significant search warrants and drug charges laid. Which all fall under our drug enforcement, intelligence gathering. So those are all significant successful cases we have based out of these initiatives."

"Our main goal is to keep the citizens of Saskatchewan safe."

He added that the violent crime rate is similar to that of previous years. There was a 9% increase which was attributed to an increase in the number of homicides but otherwise, the number remains consistent.
