Several communities are seeing upgraded service to start 2024 as SaskTel is expanding its 5G coverage.

That includes 49 communities across the province, with southeast locales such as Bienfait, Midale, Highway 702 east of Midale, and Highway 39 south of Milestone mentioned.

“Our government understands that advanced communication technologies and networks are an important catalyst for economic growth and improved quality of life for all Saskatchewan residents,” said Dustin Duncan, the minister responsible for SaskTel. “I am pleased with SaskTel’s work to bring the next-generation of wireless connectivity to the people of our province, including those living in rural and remote areas.”

SaskTel says its system can deliver speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second over the network.

The expansion is a result of $1.6 billion dollars going out across Saskatchewan over the next five years.

“Since 2021, our team has worked tirelessly to bring the incredible speed and power of 5G technology to our customers across Saskatchewan,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO. “To date, we have successfully upgraded more than 400 cell sites to 5G technology and now offer 5G wireless service in over 100 communities and along large sections of major highway corridors, including much of Highway 1, 11, and 16.”
