The grounds at St. Mary's School were buzzing on Saturday as children and adults gathered for a Carnival of Fun to raise funds for several inititaves.

"The kids of our We Club wanted to raise money for the Children's Hospital, the Estevan Humane Society and our school foster child. They decided that they wanted to have a carnival, came up with the different games, decided who they wanted to ask to sponsor us and took flyers and letters out into the community to help promote and request donations," explained Martina Veneziano, the We Club facilitator and a pre-K French teacher at St. Mary's.

"Many businesses in town have been wonderful enough to support us."

There was no target amount of funds to raise, as they were unsure of the response that they would receive. Veneziano noted that if they repeat it again next year they will be able to set some goals.

"It's for the community to have fun, get out and enjoy themselves, and mainly support those three organizations that the kids wanted to support."

She added that it was important to her for them to experience planning an event like this now, so that they have the foundations for later in life.

The activities included sack and three-legged races, ice chipping, face painting, bean bag toss, balloon darts, horseshoes and a basketball and baseball throw with cans. Members of the Estevan Fire Department also provided tours of a fire truck, and officers from the Estevan Police Service were in attendance as well.
