April in Saskatchewan can often mean a wide range of temperatures. This is no different for the coming weekend. John Paul Cragg, the regional meteorologist for the area, has the forecast for the next few days.

"Coming up to the weekend, we are looking at temperatures continuing to rise. We're forecasting a high of 17 degrees on Friday and if the skies clear out at all, you could get even higher than that. Some models are showing Estevan and area approaching 20 degrees."

He adds that the area is under a pattern that is bringing southerly winds into Saskatchewan. The warm, southerly air is moving all the way up to Northern Saskatchewan.

"So it's not just the southeast that getting warmer it's all of Saskatchewan warming up under this ridge of high pressure."

He cautions however, that once the weekend hits, the weather will shift.

"It's going to be a very warm Friday before an area of low pressure moves in to the province and the temperatures start to drop through the weekend. This also brings the chance of some rain on Saturday and Sunday mixed with the potential of snow Sunday evening to Monday morning."

He says that the models show a broad area of low pressure that will slowly move across the province and cause temperatures to slowly drop over the weekend.

"By the time that area of low pressure moves to the east, we'll be seeing northerly winds that will drag down colder air into southeastern Saskatchewan. Temperatures will be falling off Saturday and Sunday with overnight lows getting down to minus 6 Sunday night through into Monday morning. And those colder temperatures look like they'll be sticking around to the beginning of the week before temperatures start to increase again early to mid next week following through to the next weekend.

He reminds residents that large swings in temperatures is not uncommon for this part of Canada.

"It's important to keep in mind that we're in April in Saskatchewan. There is still some fluctuations in temperatures. Winter isn't completely behind us yet and there's still a chance of seeing snow Sunday and Monday in the southeast corner of the province. It's not likely we'll see a lot of snow, but the chance is there and a return to winter driving conditions. Be prepared for potentially slippery conditions on the road Sunday night and Monday morning."
