It should come as no shock to residents of the southeast that the area received an above average snowfall in March.

John-Paul Cragg with the office of Environment Canada noted that while the average amount was around 16 cm, Estevan saw a total of 30 cm last month.

"It was higher than average thanks to the 20 cm we got on March 6 during the blizzard."

With that storm came some below normal thermometer readings as well.

"It was a colder than typical month, with temperatures on average at minus 5.6 degrees, and the normal for this time of year is minus 3.8 degrees. That is thanks to the cool down that comes after a blizzard."

He noted that the highs were around minus 20 degrees for the week beginning March 7th, and continuing until the 14th.

Looking ahead into April, Cragg is seeing a trend of above average temperatures. However, he notes that the end of the month could cool off. He added that this pattern increases the risk of some storms passing through.

"Expect some rain going with those nicer temperatures as well," he concluded.
