A trio of deals later in the day, all with an eye to stockpiling future assets, rounded out the day for the Estevan Bruins on the CJHL's trade deadline day, January 10. Trades with the BCHL's Cowichan Capitals and SJHL's Notre Dame Hounds and Flin Flon Bombers saw a stockpile of future considerations.

First, the Bruins sent 20-year-old goaltender Matt Lukacs to the Notre Dame Hounds in exchange for future considerations. Lukacs played 29 games for the Bruins last year, posting a 2.97 GAA and a .902 save percentage.

Lukacs has not played a game for the Bruins in 2018-19. His last start was a pivitol series-clinching victory over the Battlefords North Stars in game five of the second round. In that game, Lukacs made 31 saves on 33 shots in a 6-2 victory. With the Bruins scheduled to play the Hounds this Friday and Saturday in a home-and-home, there's a strong possibility Lukacs's first start for the Hounds will come against his old team.

In a second move that quickly turned into a third, the Bruins appeared to be trying to add a veteran goalie. They shipped young defenseman Jack Michell off to the Flin Flon Bombers in exchange for 98-born goalie Pierce Diamond and futures. Michel, a 17-year-old from Saskatoon, has three goals and three assists in 33 games with Estevan.

Diamond, who's posted a 2.78 GAA and .915 save percentage in 24 games this year, didn't stay with the Bruins organization long. Almost immediately after acquiring the Edmonton native, the Bruins flipped him to Cowichan. Coming back were more future considerations.

This move was consistent with the pre-trade deadline philosophy of the Bruins, who had stated that goaltending was one position they were not looking at upgrading. The nature of the future considerations in all three deals is yet to be determined.

Estevan sits with a record of 18-19-2-1, good for second in the Viterra Division, four points back of the Yorkton Terriers. They have 18 games remaining in the 2018-19 regular season.
