City Council met last night and had a variety of concerns to go through.

First to speak, was Debbie Hagel who presented her hope of turning the soon to be vacant Fire Hall into a Youth Hall. She hopes that she can partner with the city in order to create a safe and secure place for at risk youth and young adults to gather. Her desire is to see it staffed with professionals. However, Councillor Moore raised the issue of the Estevan Police Service who also expressed interest in either expanding or moving into the hall. The final reports will not be available for some time so a decision will be made then.

The city accepted a proposal to waive the rental fee for the Estevan Arts Council to host their Annual Adjudicated Art Show in Affinity Place on Nov 3-4, 2017.

A number of tenders was accepted which included the tender for dust control, the Waste Treatment Plant, and a new concrete sidewalk from Gibbs Road to Souris Avenue.

There was a lot of talk regarding roads at the meeting. The construction project on King street is on schedule and as of now, under budget. Also, the motion to resurface and pave the corner of Sister Roddy Road and Wellock Road was passed.

The Mayor also accepted a motion for Estevan Pride Week to be held May 23-28.

Councillor Hoffart noted that the Bruins' Sportsman Dinner raised approximately $50,000 for the hockey club.

City Manager Jeff Ward congratulated Josh Leblanc, the Kinsmen and all the organizers on a well attended and successful Savour the Southeast.
