Residents in and around Estevan may have noticed some smoke last week.

"Our fire department was called to several fires out into the surrounding RMs," explained Estevan Fire Chief, Dale Feser. "All of the fires that were responded to were a direct result of farm machinery working the fields."

He adds that machinery swathing and preparing for baling either sparking a rock or hot bearings coming into contact with dry grass that contributed to the ignition of the fire.

"Some of the large fires were also a result of extreme high wind conditions and poor accessibility for fire department to enter and apply suppression streams to the fire."

"So it took a little while to get those under control but all in all, there was no injuries reported, there was no loss of property so everything turned out pretty good."
