A campaign to tidy up the Energy City kicked off on Monday, and it will last all week.

It's called Operation Clean Sweep, and it's in an effort to make sure that things look good for both residents and visitors.

"We all live here, and we all have property here," stated Roads and Drainage Manager Norm Mack.

"If anybody sees any debris in their back lanes this is a good week to really pick up the garbage and clean up your yard."

"It's Canada's 150th birthday this year, so we'd like the city tidy," he added.

The agenda will be a busy one for the City crews, as they will be doing their part to make things look great.

  • Monday sees them focusing all day on the City entrances, cleaning up debris on Highway 47 North and South, and Highway 39 East and West.
  • Tuesday they will tackle the green spaces, such as valleys and parks, picking up garbage in the surrounding areas.
  • Wednesday's plan of attack will have them go door to door, picking up organic waste, (like tree branches and clippings), from front driveways on the north side of the tracks. Residents are asked to have those materials in place for pick up by 8:00 AM that morning.
  • Thursday will see a repeat performance, this time on the south side of the tracks.
  • Friday will be a general clean sweep of the city, picking up any debris that is laying around.
  • Over the long weekend, the landfill will be open for free for the residents of Estevan.

Commercial properties are not included in the Operation, however, they are encouraged to participate.
