A routine traffic stop turned into something more serious for members of the Estevan Police Service last night.
"A male was stopped for speeding as he entered the city of Estevan. When he was stopped, members smelled an odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle was done, and almost 58 grams of marijuana were located," related Sergeant Evan Handley.
The driver, a 39 year old male from Southey, Saskatchewan was charged for unlawful possession of marijuana over 30 grams, as well as obstruction, as apparently attempted to tamper with the evidence after his initial arrest. He was then released for a court date in October.
"Even with new marijuana regulations coming into effect, we're still going to be out there looking for marijuana and drugs, and we want to keep Estevan as safe as possible," Handley added.
Other calls of the night included a false business alarm, recovering stolen identification and conducting a well being check.
