Southeast Newcomer Services is the recipient of a South Saskatchewan Community Foundation grant to host one of the 50 Vital Community Conversations as part of its 50th anniversary year.

Stephanie Davis with Southeast Newcomer Services on what the grant is, "Okay, so the grant is through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation. It is a grant for 50 conversations to get your community involved and vital conversations. SO we've picked three locations that target mostly our newcomers, it is open to the whole community. So we have one in Weyburn, Estevan, and Oxbow. And so we are just going to get the community involved along with the newcomers in the English class. We're going to ask some vital questions about community, about the support, about any concerns, anything that's going to get them involved."

Davis shares how excited they were to receive this year's grant, "I know that probably a lot of people applied for the grant, we are very fortunate and happy that we were chosen. I think it's important that Canada and the locals, hear from our new Canadians about how they feel about the community."

As for the importance of the vital conversations, "I think it is important to get our new Canadians involved in the community, see what their concerns are and help them feel more at home. Help them get settled in and become new Canadians."
