A man and woman wanted in Alberta for several criminal offences, including possession of a stolen vehicle, were located by the Estevan Police Service late Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Tyler McMillen reported that members spotted the 39-year-old man and 40-year-old woman on the edge of the city, and when the names they gave police didn't produce any information, they dug a little deeper.

"Eventually we were able to properly identify them and it turned out they had warrants for their arrests and also operating a stolen vehicle. It's one of those things where it was just good police work and the members were in the right place at the right time to resolve this incident."

The pair are both charged with possession of a stolen vehicle contrary to Section 354 of the Criminal Code, possession of other stolen property, wilfully obstructing a police officer by providing a false name, and breaching conditions of an undertaking. The man was also charged with operating a conveyance while prohibited from doing so.

"The truck was stolen out of Alberta, so that owner will be happy to get his property back after it was gone for a few weeks," said McMillen.

He added that the man and woman were remanded in custody last night, and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. Monday.
