Today marks a day of goodwill and community support as Southern Plains Co-op hosts its annual "Fuel Good Day." This event, which has been a tradition for several years, promises to make a significant impact on the communities of Estevan, Oxbow, and Carlyle.

To shed light on the event and its importance, we spoke with Brooke Spagrud, the Community Relations Manager at Southern Plains Co-op.

Fuel Good Day, taking place on Tuesday, September 19th, is an opportunity for every litre of fuel purchased at Southern Plains Co-op to contribute to local organizations. Brooke Spagrud explains, "It's our annual big Fuel Good Day where we take $0.10 for every litre of fuel sold and donate it back to local organizations. Each community has a different organization that's been chosen for this year as the recipient. So whether you're on E or even if you just need $10 or $20 to top up the tank, every litre counts and we highly encourage you to come and see us tomorrow."

But it's not just about fuel; even if you're just stopping for a coffee, you can make a difference. Spagrud adds, "All coffee, any size, is just a dollar. All the proceeds go to the recipients too. So you know, top up your tank, grab a coffee, and you're doing something good for the local community."

This year's recipients include the Estevan Girl Guides in Estevan, the Expressway Family Centre in Oxbow, and the Carlyle Cubs Learning Centre in Carlyle. Each organization plays a vital role in their respective communities.

Estevan Girl Guides: Despite facing challenges brought about by the pandemic, they continue to empower girls through community service, skills building, and various activities. Fuel Good Day donations will support their annual conference and camp, fostering leadership and life skills in girls.

Expressway Family Centre, Oxbow: This organization's mission is to "Build a Stronger Community Through Positive Family Interaction." They offer year-round programs for all community members, and donations will help them purchase new toys and create a sensory room, benefitting children with various needs.

Carlyle Cubs Learning Center: Since its opening in March 2023, this non-profit childcare center has been dedicated to fostering independence, caring attitudes, and consistent childcare services. Funds raised on Fuel Good Day will be used to transform their play yard and provide outdoor equipment for the children.

Southern Plains Co-op Gas Bars in Estevan, Oxbow, and Carlyle will open at 6:00 AM and remain open until closing, ensuring ample opportunity for community members to participate and support these remarkable organizations.

Join Southern Plains Co-op in fueling the future of these deserving community organizations. Every litre counts, and together, we can make a meaningful impact.
