Mayor Kaylah Turner, opens our eyes to see how just amazing the community of North Portal is.

Turner comments, “North Portal’s been pretty quiet, aside from the CBSA they’ve been doing quite a massive expansion at the border. So there's been some learning curves for everyone but its been going pretty smoothly so far.”

As to what the community is looking forward to, “I guess the thing that a lot of us are looking forward to is the border classic, that we have every year at our golf course. Every September long weekend we have a 2-day tournament that has a huge turnout and its super fun. “

North Portal has a variety of activities that you can enjoy, “We do have a play park that we put in last summer and we had it all finished up. And we had an awesome party in the park to celebrate it, which we are looking forward to. And we're going to do one in the fall this year. And for other things to do, its basically our golf course. We have a nine golf course and its fun because its an international course. So the clubhouse is actually on American soil, but you don’t have to cross the border to get to it. And they will take American and Canadian, you get to take advantage of the great American booze prices. And just get to rip around on the golf course and try your best.”

"I think the special thing about North Portal when I moved out I didn't really know what to expect. But when I moved out and meeting all of the people who have lived there you know for decades or maybe a few years. There’s just a diversity, a happy blend of artists, hippy’s, rural farmers, and its this really cool vibe we got going out there. And we have so many different artists. Theirs a couple different art studios, Sheila Farstad has hers out there. Lindsey Arnold, both of there art actually gets to travel around and go to different art shows." Turner adds, "We also have quite a few musicians. We have a new Saskatchewan band called Hook and Nail. And the husband and wife live in North Portal as well. The drummer for Shattered lives in North Portal. So we just have a lot of talented people. I don't know if it's in the water, there is something out there that just helps peoples creative juices flow I think.”

“The golf course is now a Heritage site and has been for a couple of years.”

Turner goes on to share the attractions around North Portal, “I mean in our area we have the Dunbar farm they are at the farmers market every summer, they do amazing vegetables and different baking. We have Mackenzie Meats and they do beef jerky and you can go out there. And we also have Day Break Mill, it's an organic flour mill. They grow a lot of their own grains and stone mill everything. And of course, we have the duty-free which is fun when you're going you can stop and grab it for a cheaper price.”

North Portal is a great community and a one-stop shop to head over the border.
