November has been designated Diabetes month.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has teamed up with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League to raise awareness of Type One Diabetes.

This is the sixth year that this partnership has been renewed.

"Across Canada the month of November is Diabetes Month, so its great that all twelve teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the month of November, the players will be wearing juvenile diabetes stickers on the side of their helmets to increase awareness of diabetes month across Saskatchewan," explained Randy Durovick, Fundraising Coordinator for JDRF.

Durovick went on to say how over 276,000 people are impacted by Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes in Saskatchewan. When this number is compared to the population of the province, it is a high number.

Durovick and the JDRF are excited that the SJHL players will be great role models by wearing the stickers on their helmets.

This year, the annual JDRF Telus Walk will be held on Sunday in Weyburn, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the City Centre Mall.

The JDRF is encouraging children to get more active and live a healthy lifestyle to help prevent type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes is unpreventable and those with Type 1 are insulin-dependant for life.

Insulin allows a person with diabetes to live longer but it does not cure the disease. It also does not prevent eventual complications.
