There was no shortage of topics discussed at last night's City Council meeting.

Gisele Bourgeios and Ashley Rushton presented the Financial Statement for the City from MNP.

"We were fortunate in 2016," shared Estevan Mayor, Roy Ludwig, "we were able to pay net debt down and that is a focus of this council to do that every single year until we get our debt taken care of. This year, in 2017, we were not able to do that because we bought the fire station. But moving forward, starting again next year, in 2018, we are looking at paying down $2.5 - $3 million of debt and continuing down that debt repayment road until we have our debt taken care of."

The city pays around $1 million in interest charges and with interest rates increasing, they are looking forward to getting rid of that debt quickly.

Jackie Wall, from the Chamber of Commerce was in attendance seeking the City's support for the upcoming Business Expo.

"I think we will take a strong look at this. Of course we work closely with the Chamber on a day to day basis. It's something that is very worthwhile in our community and I'm hoping and optimistic that council will come to he table and help them in some fashion."

Travis Frank spoke about a possible composting program to begin through Regens Disposal.
