Anyone looking to get their steps in with the oldest form of exercise in the world will be able to do so at Affinity Place starting today. The City of Estevan has announced the walking track will be open to the public as of this afternoon.

There will be some restrictions on those walking the track due to guidelines around COVID-19. The track now joins the fitness classes, weight room, and tennis courts at the Estevan Leisure Centre, which are already open.

“We recognize the importance of being able to provide recreation opportunities for residents while ensuring the health and safety of our patrons and our staff,” Mayor Roy Ludwig said. “We look forward to being able to open additional facilities over the coming months.”

The hours at the walking track will be Monday to Friday from 6:00 am until 9:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm. Users will need to check in with a staff member at the main west entrance before using the track. That staff member will ask them a few screening questions.

The city will limit those on the walking track to 15 people at a time, to comply with provincial regulations. It will be on a first-come-first-serve basis and they said they will not be taking reservations.

The walking track will operate on one-way traffic flow, with signs in place to direct users. The stairs will be open as well to anyone who wants to use them as part of their workout.

The city also reminds users that 6 ft. distancing recommendations are in effect throughout the facility, the walking track included.
