The town of Carlyle has been part of our listening audience for over 50 years, and we're proudly saluting them today.

About an hour northeast of Estevan, Carlyle was incorporated in 1902 and sits right along higway 13, meaning a lot of travellers pass through the community of 1500. But according Jenn Sedor, a town councilor who has lived in Carlyle 14 years, there's plenty to do for those who stop there rather than just passing through.

"Right now we have a beautiful right next to our campground and walking path with six beautiful ball diamonds," she said. "It's a really gorgeous Lion's park over there, and we've got Centennial Park for you to picnic in."

Carlyle also features a full 18-hole golf course and sits just 30 KM from Moose Mountain Provincial Park. If you're more inclined to do something indoors, Carlyle has you covered as well.

"It's always great to visit our museum," said Sedor. "It's one of the most fantastic museums I've seen in southern Saskatchewan."

The economy has started to pick up in Carlyle, which is leading to some more growth.

"We're starting to see lots of work pick back up for the oilfield residents. We've got some great new businesses in town and we've got some new restaurants opening this week in fact!"

The big attraction for the summer, however, is Carlyle Fun Days, the town's annual summer party. This year, the party takes place August 18.

"Carlye Fun Days will take up main street this year right downtown," Sedor explained. "It will be a huge street party for the day with a family fun zone right in front of the library. We'll have bouncy houses, a petting zoo, airbrush tatoos and the fire truck will be there. We've got entertainment all down main street starting at 1:00. We have four great shows going all the way until 1 AM and they're free."

"Last year we saw about 2500 people show up and this year we'd like to see 3000."

Carlyle is home to the Big Six Hockey League's Cougars in the winter, who play out of the Carlye Sports Arena.
